Wrexham is gearing up for another promotional effort by signing Liberato Cacace, an international defender from New Zealand, previously with Italian club Empoli.

The club announced on Friday that Cacace has agreed to a three-year deal for an undisclosed amount, reportedly exceeding the club record of £2 million ($2.7 million) paid for Samsmith in January.

The 24-year-old left-back is making the move after Empoli’s relegation from Serie A last season. He joins Wrexham, which has enjoyed three consecutive promotions under the Hollywood ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and has now reached the second tier of English football.

“I’m thrilled to join this historic club, and I’m eager to start,” Cacace expressed in a statement.

“From an outsider’s perspective, what they are building here is something I want to be part of. The club feels like a family, and that was a big draw for me.”

“I made a wise decision with my manager, and I was really eager to sign.”

The signing coincides with Wrexham’s preseason tour of Australia and New Zealand, with their next match against Wellington Phoenix in the capital of New Zealand on Saturday.

Cacace, who began his career in Wellington, has earned 33 caps for the New Zealand national team.

“We are excited to welcome Libby to Wrexham and look forward to integrating him into the team when we return home,” said Phil Parkinson, the manager of Wrexham.

Wrexham will kick off their championship season with an aim to secure promotion to the Premier League against Southampton on August 9th.

Fan Take: This signing is significant for soccer fans as it reflects Wrexham’s ambition to climb to the Premier League and showcases the club’s appeal in attracting international talent. Cacace’s arrival not only strengthens the squad but also highlights the ever-growing interest in football clubs from Hollywood ownership, which could inspire other teams to invest and build competitive rosters.
