‘We Owned That Moment’ — Dallas Mavericks Coach Praises Summer League Star’s Stellar Performance

The Dallas Mavericks wrapped up their summer league with an impressive win over the Orlando Magic. Cooper Flagg, a highly anticipated player, showcased his skills with a notable 31-point game against the San Antonio Spurs, even though he felt he could have done better. His performance earned praise from his opponent, Carter Bryant. While Flagg was expected to excel, another rookie, Ryan Nembhard, quickly caught the team’s attention with his standout play in just three games.

The Mavericks were thrilled to select Flagg with their first pick but also struck gold with Nembhard, who went undrafted despite his strong collegiate career at Gonzaga and leading assists in the 2024-25 NCAA Tournament. Signed on a two-way contract, Nembhard averaged 11.7 points and 6.7 assists per game, highlighted by a 21-point game against the Los Angeles Lakers. He even made a crucial basket helping Dallas secure an 87-85 victory.

Coach Josh Brogammer decided to rest Nembhard after three games, indicating the team recognized his value and didn’t want to overexpose him. The Mavericks enter the regular season without a clear return timeline for Kyrie Irving, sidelined with an ACL injury. In the meantime, D’Angelo Russell serves as a temporary replacement, and Nembhard has already shown his capability to contribute valuable minutes off the bench. Beyond his playmaking, Nembhard adds strong defensive skills to the lineup.

With stars like Flagg, Klay Thompson, and Anthony Davis poised to play for Dallas, Nembhard’s dynamic presence in the backcourt as a rookie is an exciting development. The Mavericks’ roster depth promises an exciting season with fresh talent ready to make an impact.

Fan Take: This news is thrilling for basketball fans because it highlights how young, unheralded players like Ryan Nembhard can emerge as game-changers, bringing fresh energy to the NBA. It signals a promising future for the Mavericks and adds more intrigue to the evolving landscape of the league’s rising stars.
