Tottenham Hotspur continues to be linked to the movements of Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.
The North London outfit is keen on the 21-year-old Premier League midfielder, but he will spend a fair amount this summer. The Eagles are not under pressure to sell him, as the player does not want to force an exit from Crystal Palace.
Clubs hoping to sign him must pay the odds. He will cost at least £100 million this summer, according to former Premier League scout Mick Brown. It seems very unlikely that Tottenham will make such money for young people.
Adam Wharton is uncontrollable for Tottenham
Brown told a soccer insider:
“I think Wharton at some point might want to go to a bigger club and play Champions League football or something.
“But I don’t think he’s going to want to move right now. That’s not what happens this summer.”
They need to improve their midfield options, but they can’t afford the British club record fee. Wharton appears to continue at Crystal Palace for now. He will eventually move to a larger club and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham retains interest in him.
The 21-year-old is a promising young talent with a big future and he has managed to grow into an elite player with the right guidance. Tottenham will do well to secure his signature.
Tottenham needs a defensive midfielder
On the other hand, if he decides to move on, they will need to replace Yves Bissouma this summer. It will be interesting to see if they can sign a quality defensive midfielder.
Tottenham will need to block their weaknesses if they want to do well in the league and Europe next season. Quality defensive midfielders will not only help them to tighten up in the back, but will also allow creative players to run with more freedom.
Mean, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also linked to Wharton.
