Dolphins’ Jalen Wright Breaks Down What Sets Him on Track to Become an Elite NFL Running Back

The Miami Dolphins’ offensive strategy heavily emphasizes speed. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa benefits from having two of the fastest receivers in the league, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, alongside running back De’von Achane, one of the swiftest backs in the NFL. Additionally, the Dolphins plan to expand the role of Jaylen Wright, a speedy running back they drafted from the University of Tennessee in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, who rushed for 249 yards as a rookie.

In a recent “Up & Adams” interview, Wright expressed confidence in his potential to be one of the top running backs in the league, citing his unique skill set. He also mentioned plans to be more involved in the passing game, improving on his minimal 8 receiving yards in 2024. Wright’s college stats were impressive, with four touchdowns, 1,013 rushing yards, and an average of 7.4 yards per carry in his final season. His 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine caught the attention of Dolphins’ GM Chris Grier and coach Mike McDaniel.

Though there were questions about how Wright was utilized during his rookie season, both he and Achane aim to form a powerful dual-threat backfield that could challenge defenses and potentially break the Dolphins’ long playoff win drought.

Fan Take: This development is important for NFL fans because it showcases the Dolphins’ commitment to building a high-speed, dynamic offense that could reshape how running backs are used in the league. If Wright and Achane succeed as a duo, it could bring a fresh, exciting style of play to the NFL and help Miami emerge as a serious playoff contender.
