Alex Marquez revealed that after crashing on the 12th lap and overtaking Joan Mir at the Czech MotoGP in Brno, he was simply trying to plan his next move for the following lap. Starting eighth in qualifying, Marquez was attempting to recover early in the race but lost control and crashed at Brno’s penultimate chicane on the second lap.

From an outside perspective, it looked like his overtaking attempt failed, but Marquez clarified that he was assessing the pass and intended to complete it on the next lap. “When you make a mistake, you have to accept it,” Marquez said in an interview with MotoGP.com post-race in the Czech Republic. He added that he misjudged, going too deep and lost front traction, which caused Joan Mir to crash. Marquez apologized to Mir and his team for the incident.

He acknowledged that starting from behind was a result of a qualifying error and emphasized that such weekends are learning experiences. Marquez admitted that they are not used to starting so far back but vowed to improve for the next race in Austria, saying, “We need to move forward and come back stronger.”

Joan Mir, whose race ended after the incident on lap 2, recounted that he experienced four or five hits from others before eventually crashing into the gravel. The Honda HRC rider described feeling contact multiple times and then losing control in the chicane. While Mir expressed frustration, he noted that an apology was exchanged, concluding, “That’s the reality.”

Following the race, Marquez held onto second place in the MotoGP Championship but trails leader Marc Marquez by 120 points, with just a 48-point lead over Francesco Bagnaia. For Joan Mir, this marked his eighth retirement in the opening 12 rounds of the 2025 season.
