SINGAPORE – Mikel Arteta has suggested that Arsenal may welcome a new player to their preseason tour in Asia, as the club looks to enhance its roster while continuing discussions regarding Victor Gökeres’ potential transfer.

Arsenal arrived in Singapore on Sunday in preparation for a friendly against AC Milan, followed by a match against Newcastle United, before moving on to Hong Kong for another match against Tottenham Hotspur on July 31st.

The squad includes new signings Martín Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga, making up a 30-member traveling team. Meanwhile, Nui Maduke, a recent £52 million ($700 million) signing from Chelsea who participated in the Club World Cup, was given a break.

Talks are ongoing for Victor Gökeres, with ESPN reporting that Arsenal has tentatively agreed to a fee of approximately €63 million, though additional discussions will determine around €10 million in performance-related bonuses.

In response to inquiries about Gökeres, Arteta stated:

“There’s still ample time left in the transfer window, and we are actively seeking to bolster our squad. We need to enhance both the depth and quality of our team, and we are continuously monitoring the market.”

“It’s akin to shaking a tree; it introduces new faces, excitement, and energy. We’ve also acquired some significant talent.”

Arsenal is also pursuing a transfer for Valencia center-back Christian Mosquera, estimated at around £17 million, aiming to turn the tide after finishing second in the Premier League for the past three seasons.

“They are absolutely confident in their ability to win,” Arteta remarked. “The good news is that I don’t need to convince them. They are aware of their capabilities and how close we are.”

“Ultimately, it’s those crucial details that will help us take the next step, and we are committed to working on them to realize their potential.”

“The foundational elements we need throughout the season will create the best competitive opportunities for achieving our goals. It’s a continuous effort and a responsibility for everyone involved.”

Arsenal’s first training session in Singapore was postponed due to heavy storms in the area. They will compete against AC Milan at the national stadium this Wednesday.

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer enthusiasts because it signals Arsenal’s commitment to strengthening their squad, potentially making them more competitive this season. The possibility of new signings like Gökeres could not only boost the team’s performance but also heighten excitement around the Premier League, showcasing a shift in how top clubs are approaching the transfer market.
