Post-Race Rankings and Stunning Photos from the 2025 NASCAR Playoff at Dover

Denny Hamlin took the lead at Dover Motor Speedway, navigating through rain delays to secure his fourth win of the Joe Gibbs Racing Driver’s series’ fourth season on Sunday. Following this event, the NASCAR Cup playoff rankings have been updated after the AutoTrader Echopark Automotive 400 race.

The NASCAR playoffs feature 16 drivers, with race winners almost guaranteed a spot, provided there aren’t more winners than available positions. These spots are largely reserved for regular-season champions and then filled by drivers who win tiebreakers based on points.

Currently, there are 12 winners, and the regular season champion is expected to be the race winner. Therefore, unless five new winners emerge (or four new winners combined with Tyler Reddick overcoming a 62-point gap to claim the regular season title), all race winners will likely make the playoffs.

Here are the top drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series playoff rankings following this race:

  1. Denny Hamlin (4 wins)
  2. Kyle Larson (3 wins)
  3. Christopher Bell (3 wins)
  4. Shane Van Gisbergen (3 wins)
  5. William Byron
  6. Ryan Branny
  7. Austin Sindrick
  8. Joey Rogano
  9. Chase Elliot
  10. Chase Brisco
  11. Rothshastain
  12. Josh Berry
  13. Tyler Reddick (+156 points)
  14. Alex Bowman (+63 points)
  15. Chris Busher (+44 points)
  16. Baba Wallace (+16 points)

The top 16 drivers will compete in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. Those currently outside of this group remain contenders for spots based on upcoming race performance.

Fan Take: This update is crucial for NASCAR enthusiasts as it highlights the shifting dynamics of the playoff race, keeping the competition intense and unpredictable. Denny Hamlin’s continued success not only solidifies his status as a top contender but also raises the stakes for other drivers striving to secure their playoff positions, which keeps the sport exciting for fans.
