On July 27, the San Jose Sharks selected forward Michael Misa from the Saginaw Spirit as their second overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old has had a tough draft-eligible season but still managed to amass an impressive 134 points, including 62 goals and 72 assists, over 65 games.

Misa has been a dominant force throughout his three seasons in the OHL. His high regard is evident when he names New York Islanders prospect Matthew Maggio as the best player he has ever competed against, showing the respect he has for Maggio’s talent.

At the Islanders Development Camp, Maggio praised Misa, calling him “awkward” in a unique way and highlighting his exceptional hockey IQ and remarkable skill set, stating that Misa is a player who “decides the game.”

Maggio, who spent three seasons with the Windsor Spitfires (2019-2023), played against Misa in the 2022-23 season. During that year, Maggio posted video game-like stats with 111 points (54 goals, 57 assists), following his selection by the Islanders in the fifth round (142nd overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.

Now 22, Maggio is about to embark on his third full professional season, hoping that Bridgeport Islanders head coach Rocky Thompson can help him and other prospects overcome recent developmental challenges and advance their careers.
