Colorado’s New NWSL Team Unveils Exciting Name, Crest, and Logo!

The Colorado franchise in the National Women’s Football League is now branded as the Denver Summit. On Tuesday, the team revealed its new name, colors, and logo.

To celebrate, fans will gather at McGregor Square in Denver this Saturday. The name “Summit” was chosen through a fan survey that garnered over 50,000 responses.

The team’s crest features a dark green mountain silhouette against a backdrop of reddish-orange and gold, symbolizing Colorado’s natural beauty. The reddish-orange is inspired by the state’s stunning sunsets, with the mountain peak angled at 26 degrees to represent the club’s inaugural season in 2026.

“This branding process embodies the spirit of our club and the community,” said Team President Jen Millett. “There’s a strong acknowledgment from ownership that the community is central to our growth and success.”

One challenge in the renaming process was that another team, an ultimate Frisbee squad, held the name ‘Colorado Summit’. However, the Ultimate Frisbee Association agreed to rename their team.

The Denver Summit and Boston Legacy are set to join the NWSL next season, expanding the league to 16 teams.

Denver was awarded the franchise last December and will play at a temporary venue for two seasons before moving to a dedicated 14,500-seat stadium in 2028. Construction has also begun on the club’s training facility in Centennial.

Millett noted that the team’s launch preparations are picking up speed. In May, Kurt Johnson, formerly of North Carolina Courage, was appointed as the general manager to oversee the club’s football operations.

Millett was appointed as team president in April. In addition to assembling the first team roster, ticket sales will begin soon.

“It’s important for us to stay connected with the community. There’s a lot of enthusiasm surrounding our brand and the stadium project,” Millett remarked. “We aim to gather insights and ensure that everyone feels involved with our club and its developments.”
