New Raiders Coach Pete Carroll Poised to “Win the Bunch” This Season After Recent Setback

Pete Carroll is openly optimistic about the Las Vegas Raiders’ prospects this fall. The seasoned coach, now leading the team, is confident that he will soon revitalize the struggling franchise.

Carroll stated on Tuesday, “We need to win a lot of games. I’ve been winning 10 games a year for about 20 years. What are my expectations? We’re going to win plenty. I don’t care who hears it—that’s not a concern for me.”

While some might brush off such early-season confidence, it’s not unusual for a coach to be this assured at training camp’s start. Carroll inherited a team mired in difficulties. After a successful 14-year stint and a Super Bowl win with the Seattle Seahawks, Carroll left Seattle following the 2023 season and was hired in January to replace Antonio Pierce. He is the Raiders’ fifth head coach in as many seasons, with the team also parting ways with GM Tom Telesco after just one year.

The Raiders struggled with a 4-13 record last year, finishing last in their division. Their playoff appearances have been scarce, with just one in the past eight seasons and no postseason wins since their Super Bowl run in 2002.

Bringing in Carroll is an attempt to steer the franchise back on course. His track record with Seattle—nine seasons with mostly double-digit wins and missing the playoffs only four times—makes for a solid foundation. Carroll also enlisted Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator, and together they plan to shape the offense around quarterback Geno Smith and promising rookies, notably Ashton Jeanti. Recently, the Raiders made moves to strengthen their defense, acquiring veteran safety Jamal Adams and cornerback JT Woods.

Though the Raiders face a tough road to a full turnaround, early signs from training camp suggest progress is being made. Carroll remains confident in building a winning team.

Carroll added, “Expectations are really high. We need standards so we can meet those expectations. I wish I could guarantee it for you.”

Fan Take: NFL fans should pay close attention as Pete Carroll’s leadership could signal the return of the Raiders as genuine contenders, shaking up the competitive landscape. This turnaround would not only reinvigorate one of the league’s most storied franchises but also bring fresh excitement to the sport overall.
