The Ryder Cup officially returns to Spain for the second time, and the 2031 event will be awarded to Camiral Golf and Wellness Resort, Ryder Cup Europe said on Tuesday.

Located in the northeastern Spain near Barcelona, the resort of Caldes de Malabella was previously known as PGA Catalonia. This will be the second course in Spain to host the Ryder Cup held at the Valderrama Golf Club in 1997.

The Stadium Course hosted three DP World Tour events, most recently in 2022, serving as the final stage site for the qualifying school for the 2008-16 tour. We will also be holding the tour Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship in 2028-30.

“Today’s announcement not only recognizes Camiral as one of the leading venues in Europe, but also acknowledges the substantial contributions that Spanish golf has made to the proud history of the Ryder Cup,” said Guy Kinnings, chief executive of the European tour group, in a statement.

Spain’s Sergio Garcia is the best rider cup point leader of all time, with 28 1/2, and countryman John Rahm has become one of the stars of the European team in the past three iterations of events over the past three years.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will be contested in September at Beth Page Black in Farmingdale, New York. The event will be held in Adalle Manor, Ireland in 2027 and will be followed by Hazeltin National in Chaska, Minnesota in 2027. After Camilar, the Ryder Cup will return to the Olympic Club in San Francisco in 2033.

Spain’s Seve Ballesteros was the team captain, and Europe won the Rider Cup 14 1/2-13 1/2 at Valderrama. Ballesteros, Garcia and Rahm are three of the 11 Spaniards who participated in the event.

Ballesteros and countryman Antonio Garrido, the first players of the continent to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup at Green Briar in 1979, were the first players. Since then, there has been at least one Spaniard on the team in every Ryder Cup.

“The Ryder Cup has grown significantly since Spain last hosted it in 1997,” Kinnings said. “This is one of the world’s leading sporting events, bringing great economic benefits and global exposure to the host region and country. As a result, we were unable to take it to Costa Brava and Barcelona for the first time and second time to Spain.”
