On August 6, 2023, one of the most significant trades in recent NHL history took place when the Pittsburgh Penguins acquired three-time Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson in a complex three-team deal involving 12 players. Two years on, a player obtained by the Penguins in that trade has now signed with a different team.

Forward Dillon Hamariuk recently inked a deal with the Fort Wayne Komets, an ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, for the 2024-25 season. The 24-year-old forward is also eligible to play for Slovakia’s Nove Zamky Mikron HC and the ECHL’s Florida Everblades, which is affiliated with the St. Louis Blues.

Hamariuk, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 205 pounds, was drafted 55th overall in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks. During the 2023-24 season, he played within the Penguins’ system, scoring 15 goals and totaling 39 points in 35 games with their ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers. He also appeared in eight AHL games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, earning one point. Earlier in his career, Hamariuk won the WHL Championship with the Seattle Thunderbirds in 2017.

Fans can stay updated on all things Pittsburgh Penguins, including roster changes and player news, by following the team on Google News.

Fan Take: This move highlights how the ripple effects of major trades continue to shape player careers in unexpected ways. For hockey lovers, tracking players like Hamariuk offers a deeper insight into the development paths and the global nature of professional hockey.
