Rahm – Sergio Garcia will become the captain of the greatest Ryder Cup in Spain

John Rahm has already thought about which golfers should be Captain Team Europe at the 2031 Ryder Cup.

With Ryder Cup officials revealed on Tuesday that Spain’s Camiral Golf Resort will host a 2031 competition, Rahm believes Country Mansergio Garcia makes sense as the captain of Team Europe. Spain’s Severesteros won in 1997 at Valderama when the country hosted the Ryder Cup.

“Obviously, I think there’s something to say about the possibility that they have a local captain,” Rahm said Wednesday, previewing this week’s LIV Golf UK Tournament.

“I think it brings wonders for the crowd. History shows us something and I think it’s very difficult for everyone to compare it to the seve, but I’ve just heard about what the Ryder Cup looks like. If possible, I think it’s a very obvious choice that Sergio is part of it.”

Garcia, 45, ranks among the best performers in the Ryder Cup chronicles. In the 10 competitions from 1999 to 2021, he scored a 25-13-7 record in singles matches, but no one equaled 28.5 points.

And if he chose him in this year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York, he could add to it.

“I think I can bring that to the team – I’ll probably need it,” Garcia told reporters after cutting at last week’s Open Championship. “Obviously, at the end of the day, he’s going to do anything he thinks at the end of the day is the best decision for him and his team, so we’ll see.”
