Two weeks after triggering a £60 million release clause on Morgan Gibbs White’s deal, Tottenham Hotspur has yet to complete the transaction for his signature.
The Saga continues to be dragged out, and the midfielder is now back in pre-season training and is on tour with his current outfit, Nottingham Forest.
What will happen in the coming weeks remains unknown, restricting the business that Thomas Frank can do in his first window of responsibility and limiting transactions.
Whether players want to move or not, the deal cannot proceed until the illegal approach situation with the Reds is resolved.
No doubt, other targets have been created as a result of the delay, and you can see the hierarchy moving away from Gibbs White’s moves and targeting other Premier League talents.
Latest new additions on Spurs hunting this summer
Over the past few weeks, Harvey Elliott has been touted in his move to join the Spurs, seeking to further enhance the quality of the attacking areas in north London.
The Liverpool star could be an expensive addition this summer, with Arne Slot’s side demanding fees in the £40 million area to offload the window for the 22-year-old attacker.
But he wasn’t the only Premier League player currently in their sights, and there was work behind the scenes to sign Manchester United star Cobby Mine.
According to TBR Football, the Lily Whiteman reached out to the Red Devils to ask about the potential moves of the 20-year-old, who made 37 appearances in all competitions last season.
The report also says players can leave Old Trafford this summer after a recent stalemate in contracts between players and clubs.
Previous claims suggest that United placed a asking price of £700 million on the head of the midfielder early in the summer.
Why the Spurs’ latest target is greater talent than Gibbs White
At the time of the £44.5 million transfer to the forest, the eyebrows had been raised by the size of the fee, but it’s safe to say that the 25-year-old justified every penny while he was on the ground in the city.
The former wolf star has totaled 18 goals and 26 assists for Nuno Espirito Santo in 118 appearances for the club.
He recently took responsibility for being the club’s captain, leading the Reds to European football for the first time in 30 years.
His addition is as good as Frank’s window adds to this window, especially given the drama the hierarchy is currently facing in the forest.
Mainoo has proven to be just that for the Lilywhites, already producing many famous feats that are undoubtedly better than what Gibbs-White has achieved.
The youngsters have already achieved important goals in the Europa League semifinals, but were even part of the English team during the Euro 2024 tournament last summer.
His statistics from the Premier League last season highlight why he is a significant addition, highlighting that he is superior to the 25-year-old in multiple regions that are important for the midfielder.

Labeled as “Generation” by teammate Rasmus Hojlund, Mainoo completed many of the passes he attempted, completed more take-ons, and apparently thrived with the ball at his feet.
He is not able to own him, he is just as dominant, earning more tackles per 90 and registering a higher tally of recovery.
It’s unclear how much deals with young people will cost Lily White this summer, but it’s clear he’s already a greater talent than Forest Star – which could improve further in the coming years.
If the hierarchy can complete the signing agreement for Mainoo, it is certainly a signing statement and hand over the new boss the talent he needs to succeed in North London.
