Blackhawks Eye Intriguing Free Agent Prospects for Upcoming Season

The current lineup of the Chicago Blackhawks could benefit from additional secondary scoring before the season kicks off. Among the unrestricted free agents available, forward Victor Olofson stands out as an intriguing option.

At 30 years old, Olofson had a solid 2024-25 season with the Vegas Golden Knights. Playing in 56 games for the Pacific Division team, the 2014 seventh overall pick notched 15 goals, 14 assists, 29 points, and a plus-17 rating. With these stats, he could provide a valuable boost to the Blackhawks’ bottom-six forwards and second powerplay unit, especially since he is versatile enough to play both left and right wing.

Throughout his career, Olofson has consistently shown an ability to score goals. In his seven years in the league, he has hit the 20-goal mark three times and recorded 40 or more points on three occasions. Bringing him aboard could increase the Blackhawks’ offensive depth.

Olofson would be a strong veteran presence on a one-year contract, and while it remains to be seen where he will sign, Chicago could be a viable destination.

The Blackhawks have stayed relatively quiet in the offseason so far, but they still have over $21 million in cap space available. This gives them the flexibility to add players who could contribute not just this season but beyond 2025-26.

Fan Take: Adding a skilled scorer like Victor Olofson could be a game-changer for the Blackhawks, giving fans hope for a more competitive season. This move not only boosts their current lineup but also signals their commitment to building a strong, competitive team for the future of hockey in Chicago.
