Jerry Jones Amplifies the Call: “Pay Mica!” Speech Resonates Loudly

At a recent practice in Oxnard, California, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was met with fans chanting “Pay Micah!” as the team’s negotiations to extend Mika Parsons continue. Jones noted the cheers were much quieter than last year’s loud calls to “Pay Lamb,” referencing their previous contract with Sheedy Lamb, who signed a $136 million deal last August after returning from the Cowboys’ summer camp in Oxnard. When asked about updates on Parsons following the signing of tight end Jake Ferguson to a four-year, $52 million contract, Jones declined to comment further. Executive Vice President Stephen Jones affirmed that the discussions regarding Parsons will remain private but confirmed the organization’s intent to pay him, emphasizing it’s also up to Parsons to want the deal.

Jake Ferguson’s extension was secured before training camp, including a $30 million guarantee and a $12 million signing bonus. Ferguson, a 2022 fourth-round pick, has achieved 149 receptions, 1,429 yards, and seven touchdowns over 47 games, with his best season in 2023, featuring 71 catches for 761 yards and five touchdowns. He joins Jason Whitten as one of only two Cowboys tight ends with multiple 50+ catch seasons in their first three years. Despite suffering an MCL injury and concussion last season, Ferguson remains a competitive leader highly valued by the team.

Besides Parsons, the Cowboys aim to lock down other key players like left guard Tyler Smith, cornerback Darian Branch, and possibly wide receiver George Pickens. Pro Bowl kicker Brandon Aubrey will also be a restricted free agent soon. Stephen Jones hinted that more contracts could be negotiated soon but prefers to avoid premature discussions until deals are finalized.

Fan Take: This ongoing contract activity reveals the Cowboys’ strong commitment to maintaining a competitive and talented roster, which is crucial for their success in the NFL. Locking in key players like Parsons and Ferguson not only secures the team’s future but signals their intent to compete at a high level in the coming seasons.
