KTM and Tech3 Embrace Tomorrow: “A Bright Future Ahead…”

Herve Poncharal, the boss of Tech3 MotoGP, expressed optimism about his team’s future, hoping to continue as a KTM satellite team beyond next year. Since switching from a 20-year partnership with Yamaha to KTM in 2019, Tech3 has achieved notable success, including two race wins with Miguel Oliveira in 2020.

In recent months, rumors have circulated suggesting Tech3 might switch to a Honda partnership in line with the 2027 850cc regulation changes. However, Poncharal has dismissed these speculations, reaffirming his commitment to KTM during the German Grand Prix. He stated, “The future for Tech3 is as bright as ever,” and emphasized ongoing efforts to maintain their collaboration with KTM.

Poncharal highlighted the positive seven-year relationship with KTM and awaits further plans from KTM Motorsport boss Pit Beirer regarding the 2027-2031 period. KTM’s future had been uncertain due to financial challenges, but with new majority owner Bajaj’s backing and Beirer’s assurance of ongoing plans, the outlook is more secure. Additionally, in June, Poncharal revealed that Guenther Steiner, former Haas F1 team boss, showed interest in investing in Tech3.

Currently, Tech3 stands seventh in the team rankings after 12 rounds, with a single podium finish—a third place in the Czech Grand Prix Sprint by Enea Bastianini. Maverick Viñales originally finished second in the Qatar Grand Prix but lost the result due to a tire pressure penalty.

Fan Take: This news is significant for racing fans because it signals stability and continued competition from Tech3 in MotoGP, a team with a strong track record and the potential to impact championship battles. Maintaining a partnership with KTM ensures sustained innovation and rivalry, which is vital for the sport’s excitement and growth heading into the new technical era.
