Newcastle is eager to sign and has only made one so far this summer. Fortunately, despite many sets in the past few weeks, the second number appears to have progressed.
With the expected departure of Alexander Isaac, Newcastle wants to sign a new striker to compete for a starting spot. And after missing out on Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike in the last few weeks, they turned their attention to Yoane Wissa.
Unlike the club’s previous target, Wissa was eager to join Newcastle and continued on strike in the hopes of forcing a move over the weekend. For now, Brentford hasn’t been on fire, but it is expected that they will.
Yoane Wissa may complete Newcastle move
According to a soccer insider, Mick Brown has revealed that Newcastle is expected to sign a deal for Wissa in the coming weeks.
“They expect to reach an agreement at some stage. He made it clear that he wants to leave, he told Brentford he refused training, so Brentford has to decide whether he wants an unfortunate player at the club. Most of the time, the club has to let him go.
“I think Brian Mbeumo played it perfectly because if that movement didn’t happen, he could have stayed at Brentford without any issues with the club or the fans. Wissa wasn’t doing that, he burned his bridge and made it a difficult situation.
“At this point, Newcastle doesn’t want to pay what Brentford is asking for. I think the price tag will drop later in the window and we’ll need to make sure Newcastle goes up a little and meets in the middle.
“There is no agreement at this stage, but his forced movement makes a big difference, and now it is in Newcastle’s hands.
Wissa, who scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season, is a great addition to Newcastle, but for now it remains to be seen whether he will be able to trade with Brentford.
