According to Sky Sports reporters Mark McAdam and Vinny O’Connor, Everton is keen on acquiring Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Olympique Lyon this summer. The Toffees are said to have considered Maitland-Niles four years ago when he was still with Arsenal.

Everton manager David Moyes has highly regarded the skills of the 27-year-old right-back, who can also play in midfield, having made 43 appearances for Lyon during the 2024/25 season. His experience in the Premier League, having played 109 matches in the top tier—including loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Southampton—factors into Moyes’ strategy to bolster the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Maitland-Niles, who has a two-year contract with Ligue 1, is reportedly interested in returning to the Premier League. During his time at Arsenal, he earned five caps for the England national team, but his chances of being recalled under Thomas Tuchel appear uncertain.

Fan Take: This potential signing could be a game-changer for Everton, as it indicates a focus on bolstering their squad with experienced players. For soccer fans, it highlights the ongoing shift in player dynamics and the importance of strategic reinforcements in a highly competitive league.
