MLB Trade Deadline Focus Eugenio Suarez Seals the Win After Being Struck on the Hand by a Pitch

Eugenio Suarez, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ All-Star third baseman, is hopeful that a hit to his right index finger during the second half of his team’s 5-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Monday night isn’t a serious injury. Suarez, who is being considered for a trade, was struck by a 95.6 mph sinker from pitcher Will Vest. The impact caused immediate pain, and he left the game quickly.

Fortunately, initial X-rays showed no fractures, though the pain remains. Suarez, who hasn’t been able to bend his finger, is scheduled for further tests on Tuesday and aims to return as soon as possible. This season, the 34-year-old has posted a .247 batting average, 36 home runs, and 87 RBIs over 104 games, continuing his streak of eight consecutive seasons with at least 30 home runs.

Diamondbacks manager Tory Lovullo commented on Suarez’s toughness, highlighting that his reaction to the injury indicated it might be serious. However, Lovullo believes the incident was accidental, emphasizing Suarez’s value as one of the most impressive hitters in Major League Baseball and expressing a desire to keep him on the field.

The Diamondbacks currently have a 51-56 record and are expected to be sellers before the trade deadline. Among the teams interested in Suarez is the Detroit Tigers, the club where the Venezuelan star began his MLB career in 2014 before being traded to Cincinnati.

Report by Associated Press.

Fan Take: Suarez’s potential injury is significant not only because of his talent and consistent power hitting but also due to how it might affect trade dynamics at the deadline. Baseball fans should watch closely, as his availability and health could influence team strategies and the competitive landscape moving forward.
