Kyle Brandt Shares Heartfelt Message Following Deadly NFL Headquarters Shooting by Gunman

On Monday, a gunman targeted the NFL headquarters, tragically killing four league employees before being seriously injured. The following day, “Good Morning Football” addressed the incident with anchor Kyle Brandt offering heartfelt remarks to friends and colleagues. Jamie Eldar opened the show by sharing a statement from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, then handed the segment over to Brandt, who expressed his emotions regarding the tragedy.

Brandt’s full statement described the news as heartbreaking, noting that people nationwide reached out to check on him despite him not working in that building. He emphasized the particular sadness given that the company was experiencing a period of hope and renewal. Brandt called the incident horrifying and deeply sorrowful, sending support to the victims’ families. The shooting visibly affected Brandt, who took a moment to regain composure before expressing condolences.

Eldar thanked Brandt and described the situation as grim and difficult. Initial questions about the shooter’s motive were addressed by New York Mayor Eric Adams, who confirmed the gunman targeted the NFL. Adams explained the shooter took the wrong elevator and ended up on the 33rd floor, where he died from a self-inflicted chest wound. The NFL offices are on floors 5 to 8 of the building.

Reports revealed the gunman carried a three-page letter referencing the NFL and the New York Times article about Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). The shooter, a former high school soccer player, criticized the NFL for concealing the dangers of contact sports and requested his brain be studied after death, as CTE can only be diagnosed posthumously.

The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) also issued a statement on Tuesday, extending condolences to everyone in the building. Additionally, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll shared prayers and thoughts for those affected. This story remains developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Fan Take: This tragic event hits close to home for NFL fans because it underscores the ongoing and serious issue of brain injuries and the sport’s impact beyond the field. It might prompt renewed conversations about player safety, mental health, and the responsibilities of the league to address these critical concerns.
