Twins’ All-Star Center Fielder Byron Buxton Sidelined on 10-Day Injury List Due to Rib Injuries

The Minnesota Twins have placed their All-Star center fielder, Byron Buxton, on the 10-day injured list due to a rib injury. This decision, effective retroactively from Sunday, follows Buxton’s removal during Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals, where he experienced rib pain after seven innings. An MRI on Sunday showed cartilage irritation in his thoracic cage.

Buxton is having a strong season, batting .282 with 23 home runs and 59 RBIs over 85 games, and has also stolen 17 bases. Although 31 years old and mostly healthy this season, Buxton has struggled with injuries in past years, never playing more than 102 games in a season since 2017, when he played 140 games. He recently recovered from a concussion that sidelined him for 15 days in late May and went on to earn his second All-Star selection.

Fan Take: Byron Buxton’s injury is a significant blow to the Twins’ lineup and overall team momentum, especially given his impressive performance this year. His absence highlights the ongoing challenge for baseball fans of balancing player health with the excitement of star athletes staying on the field.
