Bruce Might Want to Set His Sights on Captivating Snipers

The St. Louis Blues have added another winger to their top-nine forward group by trading Zack Volks to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Logan Mailloux during the offseason. One intriguing unrestricted free agent (UFA) for the Blues to consider is forward Victor Olofsson.

If the Blues sign Olofsson, he would provide a reliable option for the third-line right-wing position, bringing valuable secondary scoring as a 30-year-old player who thrives when involved in plays. This makes him a strong candidate for a cost-effective one-year deal or a professional tryout (PTO).

Olofsson had a solid 2024-25 season with the Vegas Golden Knights, notching 15 goals, 14 assists, 29 points, and a plus-17 rating across 56 games. He has reached at least 20 goals and 40 points three times in his career, and his pace during the 2024-25 season suggested he could hit those marks again if he had played all 82 games. Clearly, he has the potential to contribute offensively.

Given these factors, Olofsson could be a valuable addition to the Blues, potentially boosting their third line and second power-play unit. It will be interesting to monitor whether the Blues decide to pursue him.

Meanwhile, former Blues forward Jakub Vrana remains unsigned and is still looking for a new team as a UFA.

Fan Take: This development is exciting for Blues fans as adding a proven secondary scorer like Olofsson could deepen the team’s offensive depth and improve their special teams. It highlights how strategic acquisitions during the offseason can significantly impact team dynamics and competitiveness in the NHL.
