Montreal Canadiens’ New Forward Poised for a Major Breakout Season

Earlier in the offseason, the Montreal Canadiens traded defensive player Logan Mailloux to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Zac Bolduc. This swap is among the summer’s more intriguing moves since both Bolduc and Mailloux were first-round draft picks with promising futures. With the Canadiens acquiring star right-shot defenseman Noah Dobson from the New York Islanders, letting go of Mailloux to bring in a young forward like Bolduc makes strategic sense.

Reviewing Bolduc’s season with the Blues, he looks like a valuable addition for the Canadiens. In 72 games, he reached career-high stats, scoring 19 goals, adding 17 assists for a total of 36 points, making 108 hits, and achieving a plus-20 rating. These figures show he has the talent to be a reliable point producer in the NHL while also bringing toughness to the ice.

That said, Bolduc is just entering his second NHL season and has played only 97 career games, suggesting he still has plenty of room for growth. This makes him a strong candidate for a breakout season with the Canadiens.

Bolduc’s success with the Blues bodes well for his future in Montreal, especially since he now has the chance to play a more prominent role than he had in St. Louis.

Overall, there’s reason for optimism about Bolduc as the 2025-26 season approaches. He could establish himself as a genuine top-six forward for the Canadiens, and fans will be eager to see how he performs with one of the NHL’s original six teams in the coming years.

Fan Take: This trade is an exciting development for Canadiens fans, as Bolduc’s potential breakout could inject fresh energy and skill into the team’s lineup. For hockey lovers, it highlights the ever-evolving nature of the sport, where young talent is continuously reshaping the future of historic franchises.
