Ferrari locks Vassar on a multi-year contract extension

Ferrari solidified the future of team principal Fred Vasser with the French signing a multi-year contract extension.

Vasseur joined Ferrari at the start of the 2023 season, and last year the team lost just 14 points after a strong second half a year later, winning the Constructors Championship. Ferrari, with Lewis Hamilton added to the lineup this season, is once again second in the rankings, but has yet to win the race with McLaren’s 268-point drift, leading to speculation over Basser’s position at the beginning of the year in Italian media.

Despite the disappointing season so far, contrary to the background of title hopes, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna says a strong foundation has been introduced for the team to build under Vassar.

“Today, we want to recognize what was built and commit to what we still need to achieve,” Vigna said. “It reflects Fred’s trust in leadership. It is trust rooted in shared ambitions, mutual expectations, and clear responsibility. We go with determination and focus and pursue the level of performance that Ferrari must aim for.”

Vasseur joined Ferrari from Alfa Romeo more than two years ago, and although Ferrari has made progress in that time, the team says they know better than they’ll move ahead ahead of the new regulations in 2026.

“I am grateful for the trust that Ferrari continues to place within me,” Vasuzer said. “This update is not just a confirmation, it is a challenge to continue making progress, staying focused and realising it.

“We have laid a strong foundation for the past 30 months, and now we need to build on them with consistency and determination. We know what is expected, and we are all fully committed to meeting those expectations and taking the next step.”
