Basketball scouts have shared positive updates regarding Jason Tatum’s recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon. Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com reported that a scout who saw Tatum participating as an instructor at Elite Camp in Las Vegas noted that the Boston Celtics star was moving around the gym without the aid of walking boots.

The scout expressed surprise at Tatum’s mobility, saying, “He was really moving. There could have been some precautions, but what stood out to me was that he wasn’t wearing any boots.” Although not a medical expert, the scout remarked that Tatum appeared to be ahead in his recovery compared to typical Achilles tear cases.

Scouts also mentioned that while Tatum hasn’t started running or jogging, he is in great shape and hasn’t yet taken part in camp activities. Tatum is currently over two months post-surgery for the injury he suffered during a second-round playoff game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on May 12th, with surgery performed the next day.

In early July, Tatum shared glimpses of his rehab progress on social media, posting images from the gym and pool. Shortly afterward, Celtics’ basketball operations president Brad Stevens praised his recovery as “incredible.” Although the Celtics haven’t set a specific return date, Tatum has not been ruled out for the entire upcoming season.

Fan Take: This update is a huge relief for Celtics fans and basketball enthusiasts alike because Tatum is a key player whose return could significantly impact the team’s success. His swift progress also highlights advancements in sports medicine, giving hope to players recovering from similar injuries.
