At Glorious Goodwood, Two Tribes Seizes the Steward Cup Triumph for Richard Spencer

The two tribes triumphed once again at the prestigious Goodwood, securing their second victory within a week by winning the Steward Cup. The horse, with odds of 11-2 and ridden by David Egan for trainer Richard Spencer, performed just as impressively as when it had 18-1 odds the previous Friday.

Hollywood, owned by the 1980s figure Phil Cunningham and named after Frankie, had previously won an international handicap at Ascot seven days earlier. Among Goodwood’s 27 runners, 25 were notable for their past performances, with the last comparable win happening two and a half years ago by Strike Red, while Jakajaro finished third in the current race.

David Egan expressed his satisfaction, noting that the horse made its victory seem easier than in the international race, which is a rare accomplishment for many horses. Trainer Richard Spencer enjoyed further success with his horses Ramboy Run and Twilight Call finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Earlier, Carm Rodriguez guided Philly Walda, trained by Owen Burrows, to a win in the Lily Langtry Stakes. Rodriguez’s week had a dramatic start due to an emergency landing of the private plane that brought him to Goodwood, but he ended his five-day meeting on a high note. Rodriguez remarked that despite the rough start, they ensured the journey ended smoothly on the ground.

Oisin Murphy emerged as the standout jockey, clinching six wins over the five-day meeting.

Fan Take: This remarkable showing at Goodwood highlights the depth of talent in both horses and jockeys, demonstrating thrilling competition at the highest levels. For horse racing enthusiasts, such consistent performances and dramatic narratives add excitement and help to elevate the sport’s profile globally.
