Marcus Stroman Bids Farewell on Social Media Following Yankees Release

Marcus Stroman, after being released by the Yankees, shared a brief message. The right-handed pitcher posted an Instagram story on Saturday afternoon, showing his watch with the caption "Adios." Stroman was officially cut on Friday, ending his two-year tenure with the team.

Last season, he appeared in 30 games with a 4.31 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP but was dropped from the Yankees’ 26-man roster during the ALDS. Although he was added back for the ALCS and World Series, he did not play in either postseason series. This year, Stroman missed time due to inflammation in his left knee and struggled to regain form after returning from the injured list. In his last outing with the Rays on Thursday, he gave up four runs on six hits over five innings, pushing his ERA to 6.23 for the year.

Lewis Gill will rejoin the rotation on Sunday, and with Will Warren and Cam Schlitler competing for the final two spots, the team chose to prioritize younger pitchers. Yankees manager Aaron Boone acknowledged the difficulty of releasing Stroman but explained that Warren and Schlittler are ready to take on full-time roles. Boone emphasized that Stroman isn’t the same pitcher they’ve counted on in recent years but praised his competitiveness.

Since leaving the Yankees, Stroman has posted an ERA over 4.69 in more than 39 appearances.

Fan Take: This development signals a shift toward youth in the Yankees’ pitching staff, showing a commitment to building for the future. For baseball fans, it highlights the harsh realities of professional sports where performance dictates opportunity, and new talent constantly emerges to challenge established veterans.
