WNBA Fans and Valkyries Arrested After Mistaking Dream Games, Tossing Adult Toys in the Stands

During a WNBA game between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday, a fan was arrested after throwing a green adult toy onto the court, according to a league representative. The individual involved has not been identified. The league emphasized that ensuring the safety and enjoyment of everyone in the arena is a top priority, warning that throwing objects onto the court puts players, officials, and fans at risk. Those caught doing so face a one-year ban in addition to possible legal action.

The incident happened in the fourth quarter in Atlanta and lasted under a minute, with a TV camera briefly focusing on the object before switching away. Some players found the situation humorous but acknowledged the danger involved. Valkyries forward Cecilia Zandalasini said she had never seen anything like it but was glad the team stayed focused through the disruption. Meanwhile, other players like Sophie Cunningham and Isabel Harrison criticized the act as a serious security lapse.

The incident quickly spread on social media, inspiring a second green adult toy to be thrown during a later Valkyries away game against the Chicago Sky. Chicago’s Elizabeth Williams condemned the behavior as immature and disrespectful. Atlanta police have not provided any statements regarding the arrest.

Fan Take: This incident highlights ongoing challenges around fan behavior in the WNBA, emphasizing the need for stricter security measures to protect players and officials. Addressing these issues is crucial for preserving the integrity and safety of the sport as its popularity grows.
