Brazil defended its title by winning the women’s Copa America, triumphing over Colombia in a dramatic penalty shootout after the match ended 4-4 in regulation and extra time. With this victory, Brazil secured its ninth continental championship.

The match at Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado was a nail-biter, as Colombia managed to take the lead three times, with Brazil responding each time. A key moment came when Brazilian star Malta equalized late in the match, pushing it to extra time.

Although Colombia forced a penalty shootout with another late equalizer, Brazil’s experience shone through in the end.

“Women’s football is progressing significantly, and it’s becoming much more competitive. Everyone deserves to witness a match like this, so congratulations to Colombia,” said Brazilian player Amanda Gutiel.

This victory represents a proud moment for Brazil, showcasing their relentless spirit and dedication on the field.

Both teams started quickly, but Colombia found the net first in the 25th minute when Linda Caseco finished a well-crafted move with a low shot. Brazil equalized just before halftime when Angelina converted a penalty after a foul by Colombia’s Gio Gerberini.

Colombia regained the lead in the 69th minute due to an own goal by Brazil’s Talcian, who misplayed a back pass. Brazil’s Gutiel, however, leveled the score once more before Myra Ramirez of Colombia responded to put them back ahead.

As the match approached its final moments, Marta, who came on as a substitute, scored a stunning equalizer in stoppage time, pushing the game into extra time.

In the 105th minute, Malta struck again after receiving a cross from Angelina, but Lacey Santos from Colombia answered in the 115th minute with a spectacular free kick. The shootout reflected the match’s intensity, with Colombia initially gaining the upper hand following Angelina’s miss.
