Browns Rookie QB Shedale Sanders Sits Out Team Drill Due to Arm Pain

Chedur Sanders is currently participating in the Cleveland Browns’ training camp, but a recent concern has emerged. The Browns reported that Sanders, a rookie quarterback, had to leave a team drill on Saturday due to arm pain. On the other hand, quarterback Kenny Pickett, recently acquired via trade, returned to practice after recovering from a hamstring injury, participating in individual drills that day.

Sanders is competing against three others—Pickett, veteran Joe Flacco, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel—to secure the role of the Browns’ starting quarterback for the 2025 season. After Saturday’s practice, Pickett emphasized the importance of staying in the competition, noting that absence could lead to losing one’s spot on the team and pointed out that while Flacco and Gabriel received extra reps, he and Sanders needed to get back fully involved.

Sanders’ selection in the NFL Draft caught many by surprise. The Browns chose the 2024 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in the 2024 draft and also picked Dillon Gabriel, the 2024 Heisman finalist, using an earlier selection in the same draft year. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam recently clarified that the decision to draft Sanders was made by the executive vice president of football operations, Andrew Berry, following rumors that Haslam had influenced the front office to select Sanders.

The Browns are scheduled to play a preseason game against the Carolina Panthers on August 8th as part of their 2025 preseason preparations.

Fan Take: This update is crucial for NFL fans as it highlights an intense quarterback competition shaping the Browns’ future. Sanders’ injury and the battle for the starting position could significantly impact the team’s strategy and the quarterback landscape in the league moving forward.
