Emma Radukanu adds former coach Rafael Nadal to his team – Report

Emma Raducanu added former Rafael Nadal coach Francis Roig to the team full time ahead of the US opening this month, sources told PA News Agency.

The 2021 winner at Flushing Meadows has been working informally with British manager Mark Pecchi since March, enjoying positive results.

However, Petchey’s television commitment means he couldn’t always become a full-time coach for Raducanu, and after a trial with Roig following Wimbledon, the 22-year-old will begin working with him in Cincinnati this week after agreeing to the contract until the end of 2025.

Raducanu has struggled to settle with his coach in recent years until his part-time job with Petchey began paying dividends earlier this season.

Following the WTA 1000 quarterfinal show at the Miami Open in March, 16 round runs followed at the Italian Open before winning the final eight in their first women’s tournament at Queens Club.

Aryna Sabalenka proved too strong for Raducanu in round three at Wimbledon, but this was backed up by the Citi Open semi-finals as the UK’s No. 1 was seeded at the US Open later this month.

Petty, a television commentator who worked with Andy Murray at the start of her career, revealed in July that Radukanu would need to find a full-time coach soon, and she will be in Roig.

Spanish coach Roig has worked with Nadal’s uncle Toni for most of his career as a 22-time Grand Slam champion, and has recently been part of Matteo Berettini’s backroom staff.

Raducanu will remain near Petty, Pennsylvania, but will return to focus on increasing the WTA rankings with strong displays at the Cincinnati Open over the next two weeks.
