San Antonio Spurs Secure Daron Fox with a $228 Million Contract Extension for Four Years

San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox has agreed to a maximum contract extension worth $228 million over four years, according to an informed source. Fox is currently in the final year of his five-year, $163 million contract signed before the current season. The extension, which will take effect starting in the 2026-27 season, has not yet been officially announced by the Spurs but was first reported by ESPN.

This development was anticipated after Fox was traded from the Sacramento Kings to the Spurs at last season’s trade deadline, where he immediately made a significant impact. Over his eight-year NBA career, Fox has averaged 21.5 points and 6.1 assists per game. In the 17 games he played for the Spurs last season, he posted averages of 19.7 points and 6.8 assists.

Fox, along with rising star Victor Wembanyama, last year’s Rookie of the Year Steffon Castle, and this year’s second draft pick Dylan Harper, positions the Spurs as a promising team ready to challenge in the Western Conference.

The Spurs concluded the previous season with a 34-48 record. After narrowly missing the playoffs, Wembanyama appeared in only 46 games due to a deep venous thrombosis in his right shoulder, but he has been cleared for a return next season.

Fan Take: This contract extension signals the Spurs’ confidence in Fox as a cornerstone of their future and solidifies a promising young core poised to elevate the team. Basketball enthusiasts should watch closely as this roster could shift the balance of power in the Western Conference and spark exciting competition ahead.
