Step into the Spotlight: How the New Blackhawks Are Shaping the Perfect Lineup Fit

This offseason has been noticeably quieter for the Chicago Blackhawks compared to last year, though they have still made some notable additions by bringing in Andre Burakovsky, Sam Lafferty, and Dominique Toninath.

Let’s take a look at where each of these players might fit within the Blackhawks lineup currently.

Andre Burakovsky is expected to slot into the Blackhawks’ top six forwards. Considering the team’s current roster, Burakovsky stands out as one of the better wingers. Acquired from the Seattle Kraken, he has a strong opportunity to thrive. He could play alongside Connor Bedard on the first line or Frank Nazar on the second line, providing one of Chicago’s young centers the chance to partner with a skilled veteran.

Sam Lafferty, known for his adaptability as a forward, is likely to fill a role on the Blackhawks’ fourth line. With his versatility, Lafferty can serve as the new fourth-line center or shift to the wing if needed, fitting well with Chicago’s current lineup.

Dominique Toninath appears poised to serve as a depth forward for the Blackhawks if he makes the NHL roster, potentially acting as a reserve option. Alternatively, he could be a strong addition to Chicago’s AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.

During the 2024 NHL offseason, the Blackhawks also secured Tyler Bertuzzi with a four-year, $22 million contract. Bertuzzi is expected to be a key contributor to the team’s forward group and played an important role in the 2024-25 season.

Fan Take: These roster moves reveal the Blackhawks’ strategy to blend experienced talent with promising young players, which could be critical for their push towards competitiveness. Hockey fans should watch closely as these additions may redefine the team’s dynamic and impact the broader NHL landscape in the coming years.
