Manchester City has reached an agreement for a new contract with center-back Rúben Dias, according to ESPN sources.

Previously, Dias was under contract until 2027, but the club acted swiftly to secure the Portuguese defender with an extended deal.

Both City and Dias’ representatives have confirmed the agreement, which has been described as “in principle.”

Since joining from Benfica in 2020, Dias has played a crucial role in Pep Guardiola’s lineup.

He has played over 200 matches for City and was honored as the Premier League Player of the Year in 2021.

Several of his teammates also have contracts expiring within the next two years, including Ilkay Gündogan, John Stones, Ederson, and Bernardo Silva.

Players like Rodri, Phil Foden, Mateo Kovačić, Nathan Aké, Jack Grealish, and Manuel Akanji are committed for the next two years.

Alongside Erling Haaland, Dias has solidified his future at the club. In January, the Norwegian striker agreed to a contract extension keeping him at City until 2034.

Sources mentioned that, following Dias’ confirmation, the club’s management will intensify efforts to secure long-term deals for Rodri and Foden as well.

This news is significant for soccer fans as it showcases Manchester City’s commitment to maintaining a strong defensive lineup, ensuring stability within the team. Additionally, securing key players like Dias may influence City’s ability to continue competing at the highest level, which makes the Premier League even more exciting and competitive.
