BMW Proposes Surprise MotoGP Rider to Step in for Toprak Razgatlioglu After Snub

BMW’s plan to replace Toprak Razgatlioglu with a MotoGP rider appears to have fallen through. Rumors had circulated that Danirope Torucci might leave Barni Ducati for BMW in 2026, coinciding with Razgatlioglu’s anticipated move to MotoGP, creating a promising opening at BMW. There might even be two available seats, depending on the future of Razgatlioglu’s current BMW teammate, Michael van der Mark.

Maverick Vinales was reportedly approached by BMW for a switch to World Superbike (WorldSBK) in 2026, but sources say this won’t increase his chances of securing a ride. With Razgatlioglu possibly leaving, BMW faces the challenge of deciding whether to retain Van der Mark or replace him with someone like Danilo Petrucci. Meanwhile, veteran riders such as Alvaro Bautista, Jonathan Rea, and Andrea Iannone remain unsigned for 2026, adding to the uncertainty.

Vinales’ value has risen due to his role at Tech3 KTM, where he contributed significantly to developing the bike after a rough start to the season. Currently ranked 11th, he is ahead of factory KTM rider Brad Binder, while Pedro Acosta holds the highest KTM position at seventh after a strong performance in Spain’s MotoGP. Vinales has also secured fifth-place finishes at Le Mans and Assen, and KTM celebrated its best weekend of the 2025 MotoGP season at Brno, where Acosta achieved podiums in both races. Vinales is expected to continue supporting the KTM project next year.

Fan Take: This update is crucial for racing enthusiasts as it highlights the shifting dynamics in WorldSBK and MotoGP, with top talent on the move and team compositions in flux. Such changes could intensify competition and bring fresh excitement to the sport, making the 2026 season one to watch closely.
