Outfielder Roman Anthony recently made his Major League Baseball debut this season. As reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the 21-year-old Boston Red Sox player is in the final stages of securing an eight-year contract extension worth $130 million.

This agreement is set to commence in 2026 and includes club options, along with an escalator clause that can escalate the total value up to $230 million. Passan also noted that the team maintains control over Anthony through 2034.

In 46 games this season, Anthony has posted a batting line of .283/.400/.428, with two home runs and 19 RBIs. The Red Sox selected Anthony, who was ranked 79th among high school prospects, in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft and signed him for $2.5 million. By June, before his promotion to the majors, he was recognized as the top minor league prospect by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline.

Just two days prior to his MLB debut, Anthony made a remarkable impact with the Worcester Red Sox by hitting a 497-foot grand slam at an exit velocity of 115.6 mph, helping his Triple-A team secure a lead in the bottom of the eighth inning against the Rochester Red Wings. He debuted in the majors on June 9th at Fenway Park against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fan Take: This contract extension signals the Red Sox’s long-term commitment to Roman Anthony as a cornerstone of their franchise, highlighting the growing trend of investing heavily in young, homegrown talent. For baseball fans, it’s exciting to see such a promising player locked in for the future, potentially shaping the sport’s next generation of stars.
