Hyun Min, his son, joined LAFC with enthusiasm and high aspirations for this pivotal phase in his soccer journey. "My goal here is to win, and I’m ready to play," he declared during a lively press conference. "You can expect some thrilling football from me, whether you call it soccer or football. Success is on the horizon."

LAFC officially welcomed the new forward at BMO Stadium, where his image has already been displayed on the video board at the main entrance. The 33-year-old South Korean star arrives in the league following a notable decade with Tottenham in Europe.

"My dreams are coming to fruition. Los Angeles, what a fantastic city," he expressed.

After deciding to leave Spurs, he received offers from numerous clubs worldwide but admitted that he was uncertain about joining LAFC at first. It was a conversation with LAFC general manager John Sorrington that changed his perspective. "Honestly, this wasn’t my first option," he noted. "But after speaking with John post-season, my mindset shifted completely. He guided me toward the right choice, and here I am."

He chuckled while mentioning that Hugo Lloris, his long-time teammate at Tottenham and now LAFC’s goalkeeper, also encouraged him to make the switch.

As South Korea’s most celebrated athlete, Hyun Min is often regarded as the greatest Asian footballer in history. He mentioned feeling at home in Los Angeles, where the Korean community is the largest outside of Korea and there is a diverse fanbase that appreciates his accomplishments.

The introduction event featured numerous notable attendees, including Mayor Karen Bass and various politicians, alongside passionate LAFC fans with their energetic drumming and singing. Hyun Min appreciated the fervor of the supporters during the club’s League Cup triumph against Tigres.

"Welcome to LA, where sports fans from all over the world are excited to see you," Mayor Bass said. "This is a moment that future generations will cherish."

By joining LAFC, his son adds to the roster of numerous soccer stars making the move from European leagues to Hollywood. While LAFC has seen stars like Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini, their rivals at LA Galaxy have also attracted big names, including David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It appears his skills haven’t diminished, as he actively participated in Tottenham’s Asian summer tour, reporting that he is in excellent shape. Although he hasn’t set a debut date with LAFC, it could happen later this month.

"I felt like I needed a new beginning and a challenge, so I chose LAFC," he explained. "While I acknowledge I’m getting older, I still possess great physicality and quality. I’m here to play and also to mentor younger talent."

Editorial Opinion: This development is significant for soccer fans as it illustrates the growing trend of top-tier talent transitioning to Major League Soccer, which enhances the league’s competitiveness and visibility on the global stage. Hyun Min’s arrival could elevate MLS’s profile, attracting even more international players and fans eager to see world-class soccer in the U.S.
