Flyers’ Travis Connekney Surprises Fans by Missing Out on Top NHL Winger Rankings

The Philadelphia Flyers’ forward Travis Konecny, who made the top 20 NHL winger list last year, did not make the cut this year according to the NHL Network. The latest rankings released on Wednesday introduced several new players that bumped Konecny, 28, out of the top group. Previously ranked 20th along with Steven Stamkos (13), Brad Marchand (18), and Zach Hyman (11), Konecny was replaced by Matt Boldy (19), Adrian Kempe (20), Jesper Bratt (12), and Brandon Hagel (13).

Despite recording 76 points last season, which placed him 30th overall among NHL forwards and ahead of notable names like Alex Ovechkin (ranked 17th by the NHL Network), Konecny’s team, the Flyers, finished with the fourth-worst record in the league. His performance included 24 goals, 52 assists, and 76 points over 82 games, marking his second full 82-game season, and his first since 2018-19. However, Konecny scored only seven goals in his last 44 games, which has likely affected his reputation as a key player expected to lead the Flyers.

Meanwhile, the Flyers appear to have slim chances of acquiring Mason McTavish in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks, adding to the team’s challenges.

Fan Take: This development is significant for hockey fans as it highlights the intense competition among NHL wingers and the high standards for making the top ranks. For the sport, it underscores how team performance and individual consistency both play crucial roles in a player’s recognition and value in the league.
