Like his counterpart on the PGA Tour, Liv Golf is the equivalent of a playoff, playing for three consecutive weeks in Chicago before going to Indianapolis and then to the team championships to go to Michigan.
In the next two weeks, players’ rankings will be locked after the 13th event, and individual champions will be determined as they move their full focus to the teams for the final week of the year.
In his fifth victory in the season at Liv Golf UK, Joaquin Niemann (206.8) returned ahead of Jon Rahm (169.16) in individual standings, with Bryson Decambeau (136.24) back in third place. He currently has earned almost half of the event on his LIV schedule (5 out of 11), and Rahm will need an epic finish in the next two events to prevent Neeman from bringing home his season-long individual titles.
The good news for Rahm is that he won last year in Chicago – he escapes Neiman in the process – so if he tries to make the final push to challenge Neiman for an individual title, he heads to a comfortable place.
On the team side, Rahm’s Legion XIII was added to the cushion via Deccanbeau’s crusher after winning a team competition in the UK. They currently have a 46.66 points advantage over the crusher heading for a stretch run. The battle is much closer to the second between the crusher (172) and the fireball (155), with four to six stages of teams, rippers and torque all separated by less than 9 points.
Teams at the top of the ranking can choose their opponent in the match-play portion of the Team Championship in Michigan State in three weeks. So for teams fighting in top six positions, the value of being a higher seed is gaining the first choice of weaker teams at the bottom.
As individual championship races approach closer and closer to jockeys in positions heading towards the team championship, here’s how to watch the first of their LIV golf action for the third week in a row:
