Shane Van Gisbergen made a striking entrance into NASCAR in 2023 by winning a Cup Series race at the Chicago Street Course during his debut. A three-time New Zealand supercar champion, he has since transitioned to a full-time NASCAR career. Although 2025 marks his rookie year in the Cup Series, Van Gisbergen has already established himself as a formidable competitor, securing three victories, including wins in Mexico City, Chicago, and Sonoma Raceway. While still honing his skills on oval tracks, his exceptional talent on road and street courses has earned him a playoff spot and nearly guaranteed him the Rookie of the Year title.

Truckhouse Racing recently extended Van Gisbergen’s contract for multiple years, a reflection of his impact and potential. Van Gisbergen expressed gratitude to Truckhouse for giving him a chance to race in Chicago, calling the team his home and crediting them for supporting him through this new challenge. At just under 40 career starts, he has matched the record for the most wins in a rookie Cup season. With Ross Chastain solidified as the top Chevrolet driver and Daniel Suarez leaving the team at the season’s end, Truckhouse has yet to announce a replacement for the No. 99 car. Team owner Justin Marks praised Van Gisbergen’s ability to adapt to a new racing environment across the globe and dominate, highlighting him as one of the sport’s rising stars.

Fan Take: Shane Van Gisbergen’s explosive entry and rapid rise in NASCAR bring fresh excitement and international flair to the series, showcasing the sport’s growing diversity and global appeal. His success story is a testament to the value of embracing talent from different racing backgrounds, which could lead NASCAR into a more dynamic and competitive future.
