Guardiola: Rodri Unlikely to Fit City’s Premier League Kickoff

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been dealing with a series of injuries, and according to coach Pep Guardiola, he won’t be back to full fitness until after the international break in September.

Although he didn’t rupture his ACL last season, it’s reported that he suffered groin issues during the Club World Cup match against Al Hilal last month after making a return in the second half of the season.

“Rodri is improving, but he sustained significant injuries in his last game against Al Hilal and has been struggling for about five or six weeks,” Guardiola stated.

“He’s currently training, and his condition has bettered in the last two to three days. We’re hoping the international break will help him achieve full health.”

“We hope he can play for a few minutes in the game before that, but the key is that he doesn’t experience any pain, as we want to avoid him returning too soon and risking further injury.”

“We’re doing our best to ensure that doesn’t happen, and he has been training with us for the last two or three days, which is promising.”

Rodri, along with Phil Foden and Mateo Kovacic, underwent surgery for Achilles injuries over the summer and didn’t travel with the squad for the Anglo-Palermitan Trophy match against Palermo this Saturday.

When asked about Rodri’s chances of playing in the Premier League opener against Wolves next weekend, Guardiola replied, “I doubt he will be ready for a full 90 minutes.”

“As for Phil (Foden), his availability depends on his recovery, but it’s a long week ahead, and Koba is expected to be out until September or October if all goes well.”

The news is crucial for soccer fans as Rodri’s absence could significantly impact Manchester City’s performance in the upcoming matches, especially with the Premier League opener against Wolves on the horizon. His recovery not only affects his team but also shapes the competitive landscape of the league, making every match intriguing.
