Crystal Palace and Liverpool are facing each other in today’s Community Shield Game at Wembley. The match marked the silence of Diogojota, who died in an accident earlier this summer.
Before the kickoff, both clubs paid tribute to Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically died in a car accident in Spain in July.
A minute-long silence was held in commemoration of the brothers, but reports from Wembley inside suggest that the moment was eroding by a small number of supporters at Crystal Palace who chose to boo the gesture.
Meanwhile, Liverpool retired from the player’s No. 20 shirt out of respect for Jota, and they decided to respect his contract too.
What Crystal Palace fans did at Diogojota Tribute
According to AthleticJames Pierce of “Silence for Diogo Jota, suspended by a few palace fans. Liverpool’s end and the booing of the umpire make it shorter.”

Liverpool Lead Palace in Community Shield Match
The rivalry between the two teams is understandable, but the actions from a small number of Crystal Palace fans disappoint Liverpool fans and neutrals.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palestine Trail Liverpool is 1-2 at the time of writing. Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong’s goals are moving ahead with Reds this afternoon, and it’ll be interesting to see if they’ll ultimately get a shield.
Liverpool certainly looks like a sharp unit so far, controlling for much of the game. Arne Slot could also be pleased with his new signature so far.
