Indiana Fever Secure Odyssey Sims with a Hard-Fought Contract, Strengthening Their Lineup at Point Guard

The Indiana Fever announced on Sunday that they have signed guard Odyssey Sims to a hard contract. Sims was brought in after the Fever lost key players Sydney Colson (ACL injury) and Ahri MacDonald (right foot injury), both sidelined for the season.

At 32 years old, Sims brings valuable experience and a traditional point guard presence to the team. Earlier this season, she appeared in 12 games with the Los Angeles Sparks but was released after missing some games due to personal reasons. During her time with the Sparks, Sims started 11 games and averaged 9.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, shooting 41.7% overall, and 35.3% from three-point range.

Across her 12-season career, Sims has averaged 11.2 points and 3.8 assists per game. Though her three-point shooting percentage currently stands at 27.7%, she was an All-Star in 2019, when she averaged 14.5 points, 5.4 assists, and 1.4 steals for Minnesota. She led Baylor to the 2012 National Championship and was the second overall pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft.

The Fever have struggled at point guard this season, especially with Caitlyn Clark out and injuries to McDonald and Colson. Kelsey Mitchell stepped up recently, scoring 26 points and handing out a season-high eight assists to help lead the team to a 92-70 win over the Chicago Sky.

Fan Take: Odyssey Sims’ signing is a crucial move for the Fever, providing veteran leadership and stability at a key position during a tough stretch. For WNBA fans, this move shows the intensity of competition and the importance of experience in overcoming injuries, making the league even more exciting to follow.
