  • The Spurs target Romero and Gabriel Hybrid
  • How Araujo compares Romero and Gabriel

They certainly didn’t help themselves, but the biggest problem for Tottenham Hotspur last season was injuries.

Ange Postecoglou had to make it in time for the bulk of his campaign with a cobblestone team. When he regained his players, they won the Europa League.

Without a doubt, Lily White’s biggest mistake was Christian Romero. He missed 27 games before playing a pivotal role in the club’s first trophy victory in 17 years.

The World Cup winner is undoubtedly one of Thomas Frank’s most important players this season, so fans should be pleased with the report linking Gabriel Magalhae with the international comparison of the club to him.

The Spurs target Romero and Gabriel Hybrid

It’s been an interesting summer for the Spurs so far, as Morgan Gibbs White’s pursuit doesn’t produce fruit, they’ve bought it on several other potential game-changers.

For example, he wasn’t cheap, but Mohammed Kudus can help turn Lilywhite into a much more dangerous side, while Joa Parchinya has the ability to make them a much more harsh side to break.

Additionally, North Londoners appear eager to add at least one player to the rank before the window closes, the player compared to Romero and Gabriel.

At least that claims that, according to a recent report from Sebastien Vidal, the Spurs are highly interested in Ronald Araujo, who is valued at £43 million.

In fact, the journalists went further and revealed that the Lily Whiteman would “hope” to make his first official approach to the Barcelona star as soon as “next week.”

It could be a complicated and relatively expensive transfer, but Araujo proves he is worth it, especially as he is compared to Romero and Gabriel.

How Araujo compares Romero and Gabriel

Currently there are several surface-level similarities that can be pointed to between Araujo, Gabriel and Romero. For example, they’re South American defenders who play for the nation, playing topside in one of Europe’s top five leagues, or none of them are defenders who are easily bullied from the ball.

But thanks to FBREF, we see all centre-backs in the top five leagues and know that over the past 365 days, Arsenal’s star is third-most similar to the Barcelona Ace, while the Spurs Titans also have undeniable statistical similarities, all the way to the most similar ninth rank.

By examining the underlying numbers that Uruguay ranks closely into two Premier League monsters, we can better understand how these comparisons were made.

Interestingly, when it comes to Gunners’ ace, the Rivera-born star is actually not ranked very closely on defensive metrics, instead sharing a lot of Brazilian offensive qualities, from non-penalized expected goals to key passes and target creation actions, to actions that create key passes and goals around 90.

That being said, comparing it with the two best defenders in the world’s toughest league is certainly encouraging, but there are other debates about why North Londoners should do all the deals of the former Boston River star, including his experience.

For example, he is only 26 years old, and according to athletic research, according to “Athletic Monsters”, dubbed by analyst Raj Chohan, 141 starts and he’s a year away from hitting his peak, as he scored a pretty good Tally of seven goals and seven assists in those games.

In addition to that, he also helped the Spanish giants win two La La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey and two Super Cups. This makes it easier to understand why legendary centre-back Karl Zupyol once described him as “one of the best defenders in the world.”

Ultimately, getting over the line could be a complicated transfer, but the Spurs should be doing what they can to ensure Araujo’s service, especially as he’s something like a hybrid between Romero and Gabriel.
