Meet Raven: The Exciting New Mascot of Golden State Valkyries Takes Flight at Violet

It’s a bird, it’s a plane—no, it’s Violet the Raven! The Golden State Valkyries revealed their new mascot, Violet, during Bird Watchers Night at Chase Center in a Monday evening game against the Connecticut Sun. Created by Bay Area artist Sortie, Violet made her debut halftime appearance, confidently entertaining a packed crowd.

Violet sported a white and black cheerleader outfit with her name on the back and the Valkyries logo on the front, dazzling fans with a flawless cartwheel. Her look was completed with yellow glasses, striped socks, and white sneakers. On her new social media account, Violet greeted fans with a cheerful “heyyyyy besties.”

The mascot’s name, Violet, draws from Valkyrie Violet, the official team color symbolizing power, ambition, nobility, and women’s empowerment—values the team proudly promotes.

Leading up to the big reveal, the Valkyries teased Violet’s arrival with clever hints during Bird Watchers Night. On August 7, a mysterious violet egg was spotted outside the Chase Center, sparking curiosity and expert speculation about the “bird species” inside. Violet wings were also found nearby.

Wildlife expert Kenny Elvin described the unusual purple egg, brighter and larger than anything he’d seen, as a symbol of something new and exciting hatching. Inside the Chase Center, the team cared for the eggs in a custom nest and handed out binoculars to fans to spot the hatching during the Connecticut Sun game.

Before tip-off, a video highlighted mystical violet feathers appearing around the arena as forward Monique Billing warmed up, adding to the atmosphere of anticipation.

Since becoming the WNBA’s first expansion team since 2008, the Valkyries have sold out every game this season at Chase Center, and Violet already has a dedicated fanbase.

Fan Take: The arrival of Violet injects fresh excitement and personality into the Golden State Valkyries, connecting fans to the team in a fun, meaningful way. For WNBA supporters, this mascot represents an important step in growing the league’s culture and boosting community engagement—key factors in the sport’s ongoing rise.
