Benjamin Sesco, the newest addition to Manchester United, expressed his desire to follow in the footsteps of his idol, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, during his tenure at Old Trafford.

The Slovenian international finalized his move from RB Leipzig to Manchester United on Saturday for a fee of 85 million euros (approximately $98.8 million).

Ibrahimovic had a notable stint at the club, netting 29 goals and providing 10 assists across 53 matches over nearly two years.

“Given my size, I’ve always looked up to him. He’s an inspiration for me, and I’ve watched every YouTube video available,” Sesco said.

“While we may not share the same demeanor, I admire his style, enjoyment of the game, and overall play. It’s always been a dream of mine to meet him one day.”

“Although our playing styles differ, I try to replicate what he does in certain situations,” he added.

Last season, Sesco scored 21 goals in 45 games across all competitions for Leipzig.

He also shared admiration for previous United greats like Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.

“Players such as Van Persie and Rooney are legends. I’ve watched their performances on video, and they were incredible,” Sesco remarked.

“I aspire to make my mark here and help elevate my team and club as much as possible.”

Despite a challenging previous season for United, Sesco is optimistic about brighter days ahead, joining fellow summer signings Maceus Cuña and Brian Mbeumo.

“This team is ideal for me, and it’s continually improving,” Sesco stated. “I see it as a fantastic project and can’t wait to get underway.

“We’re growing together and fostering fresh energy. I believe it’ll be an exciting journey ahead.”

“With our progress, I’m confident it’s just a matter of time before we rise again.”

Fan Take: This signing of Sesco is crucial for Manchester United fans as it not only brings youthful talent but also revives hopes of competing at the highest level. If he harnesses the influence of legends like Ibrahimovic, it could significantly reshape United’s attacking strategy and restore its former glory.
