Miami’s Redondo and Callender Prepare to Depart

Midfielder Federico Redondo and goalkeeper Drake Callender both confirmed to ESPN that they are likely to leave Inter Miami.

Redondo is set to complete a permanent transfer to Elche in Spain, with the deal expected to be finalized shortly. Meanwhile, sources indicate that Charlotte FC is finalizing arrangements for Callender.

Redondo joined Inter Miami from Argentinos Juniors ahead of the 2024 season and signed a contract valid through the 2027 MLS season, with an option for 2028.

Over 60 appearances across all competitions, he recorded two goals and four assists, frequently alternating between starter and substitute under coach Javier Mascherano. He has been a key partner alongside Sergio Busquets in midfield.

At just 22 years old, Redondo was part of the 2024 Inter Miami squad, which not only secured the MLS Supporters’ Shield but also set the league record for the most points in a single season.

Born in Spain to former Real Madrid and Argentina player Fernando Redondo, Federico also represented Argentina at the Olympics and participated in the Under-20 team during the 2024 Conmebol Pre-Olympic Tournament.

Spanish radio station Cope was the first to break the news about Redondo’s transfer.

On the other hand, Callender joined Inter Miami in December 2019, prior to their inaugural MLS season, starting with Inter Miami CF II before taking over as the first team’s goalkeeper in 2022.

His impressive performance in 2022 earned him a finalist spot for the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award, amassing 92 regular-season appearances for the club, though he played only three in 2025.

Callender began the 2025 season on the sidelines due to an injury sustained while competing against the US Men’s National Team in January.

Givemesport was the first to indicate a potentially significant move for Callender.

Fan Take: This news is crucial for soccer fans as it signals a potential shift in both players’ careers and the dynamics of MLS teams. The departures could open opportunities for new talent and change the competitive landscape of the league.
