NEW YORK – Venus Williams returns to Grand Slam tennis at the US Open after two years of absence, receiving a wild card invitation on Wednesday and will compete in singles at the Flushing Meadows at the age of 45.
According to the International Tennis Federation, Rene Richards was 47 years old in 1981, making the American the oldest singles participant in the tournament.
Williams had already been given a wildcard entry from the American Tennis Association for next week’s mixed doubles competition. The singles match will begin on August 24th in New York.
She won major singles championships, including the 2000 and 2001 US Open. Serena Williams retired with 23 slam singles trophies after playing for the 2022 US Open.
