Venus Williams will return to the US Open later this month for the first time since 2023 when he was one of eight women given a wild card invitation.

Since 47-year-old Rene Richards took part in the 1981 event, Williams’ final major tournament entry at the age of 45 makes her the oldest player on the singles side. Two-time US Open Winner Williams was already in the mixed doubles competition after receiving the wildcard invitation.

A seven-time Grand Slam Tournament Singles champion, including two wins at the Flushing Meadows in 2000 and 2001, Williams has won the WTA Tour of her career 47 times.

Since Williams’ last US Open single title, she has reached the semi-finals three times and has not managed to get out of the first round in her first appearances since 2020.

The injury has hindered Williams’ career for the past few years. She returned to court last month for her first match in 16 months at the DC Open. When asked if she was planning on playing in a future tournament, the former World No. 1 told the Associated Press, “I’m just here now, who knows? Maybe there’s more… But for now, I’m focusing on this. This is my brand.”

Williams, who was honored with the new Barbie this week, also played doubles matches at the DC Open, and took part in the Cincinnati Open last week, via a wild card invitation before losing in the first round.
